been megastressed so i stress myself in a different way by figuring out his face once it stabilizes, and all the excess mutations and bad skin have fallen off and the blisters have drained. verdict? drool monster

a non-exhaustive list of what he’s got going on medically (head issues only)

• ear has fallen off. that thing is just blisters by the end of the movie, and with the messed up jaw situation, it just rotted right off;
• related, his vestibular system is all wonky. had a few weeks of BPPV which then later had to be medically corrected;
• left side hearing is pretty shot now;
• teeth aren’t rooted in bone (except maybe two) but in facial muscles and skin tissue, so they are very loose and fall off constantly. don’t worry, the fuckers grow back fast;
• teeth roots are also knotted up in the facial neves, so most of his left side is deadened. can express a bit but not much, sometimes it hurts. can make teeth fall off faster;
• because of above, his left eyelids don’t respond properly. has to use an eye bandage to keep the eye closed so it doesn’t dry out;
• can still see through it even when closed, and he wishes he didn’t, those visions are nightmarish;
• so many sinus complications, constantly getting clogged noises, ear popping (which hurts like a motherfucker) and inflammations;
• vocal chords messed up by the mutations, even after corrective surgery his voice cracks or sometimes fully doesn’t work at times. shouting and high notes almost impossible;
• again, constant drooling and dry mouth issues. can only eat with assistance of bandages over his face to keep the teeth somewhat closed;
• lots of issues with his original set of teeth as well, had to have a few molars replaced;
• facial lymph nodes issues, has to do drainage massages daily;
• hair loss and thinning for a while, never quite fully recovered original density;
• bouts of visual agnosia and photosensitivity due to mutations reaching his optic nerve and frontal lobe, and the concussion really didn’t help;
• skin grafts on the way, but they are often rejected. injuries refuse to dry out though, so gotta keep on trying.

• Mutations affected every injury site in his body, both as easy entry poinrs for the blood and as a way to heal him, though not in the way he might appreciate;
• His broken ribs were some of the first, it’s the cause of his coughing out blood. Mutations “took root” and replaced the broken ribs before spreading to his stomach, left lung and kidney;
• Stump is formed by mutated skin and muscle, shaped like a very tight root ball. Wound site won’t scab, dry, and rejects sutures;
• Replacement arm is not permanent. It may sprout for a specific task or need, but once it’s fulfilled, the entire limb collapses into non-cohesive flesh puddles;
• Arm tissue is sourced from bronchi, blood is produced in hijacked rib and sternum marrow. If he put his mind to it, he could breathe (oygen exchange) through the arm;
• Arm tissue travels through hijacked scar tissue and superficial veins, up the back and shoulder to the stump. It’s a quick but painful process, imagine trying to pass a kidney stone the size of your fist.
• Causes internal bruising of the muscles the tissue passes through. Sometimes the inflammation is enough to run him a fever;
• Disturbance of his bronchi causes several respiratory issues;
• He avoids the entire affair as much as he can, if it were up to him it wouldn’t happen at all. Sadly the Tree’s hivemind doesn’t feel the same way.
